Alodia or Myrtle?

Okay. I know this issue is so out of date, but I’m going to write about it anyway.

I’ve actually met Myrtle in person (I was still an innocent fan back then and I asked her a few questions about cosplay) and she’s not so bad. She’s actually pretty endearing, to be honest. I don’t know if she’s really like that, since I was just a fan and we’re not close or anything, so I can’t really judge. I can’t judge Alodia either, since I haven’t seen her in person (thankfully) and I didn’t bother do much research on her behavior or something. But since these two are both well-known for their cosplay, let’s start there.

Alodia

Pros:

  • She is older and has cosplayed a lot of characters since she was 15 years old (she is 24 now). She also has numerous cosplay competition awards and endorsement deals under her belt.
  • She makes her own props (her Lina Inverse costume is said to be her creation).
  • She belongs to a rich family, therefore having access to quality costumes, wigs, toys, and cameras.
  • She is a true blue otaku who loves watching anime and playing video games
  • She does her make-up well and suits whoever she’s cosplaying (most of the time)
  • She has a huge international following (not that I actually ever heard of them)
  • She has a lot of whiteknights (Alodians, Alodia Army, Alodia Navy, etc.)
  • She was cool (past tense)
  • Her artworks are amazing
  • She can play the piano
  • She has a lot of connections with a lot of famous people
  • Most of her cosplays are actually pretty awesome and are of high quality (MOST not ALL)
  • She earned international fame after years of working hard

Cons

  • Her voice and manner of speaking are so weird I wonder someone with her face talks like that.
  • She still has a lot to learn about being a host (and fix her speech)
  • Some of her cosplays are out of character (probably because of her job and she can’t pick characters she likes, they force her to wear costumes of characters she doesn’t know or like)
  • She cheated on a Yahoo! OMG Awards Poll (it wasn’t necessary and it gave her a negative image)
  • Most of her fans aren’t even otakus and they worship her and call her a goddess and she doesn’t care if they go too overboard (see reports of recently concluded Toycons)
  • She acts too childish it’s not cute anymore (probably because of her job and image)
  • She looks too unnatural and unrecognizable from her old pictures, sparking plastic surgery rumors

Myrtle

Pros

  • She is an SK Chairman and gathered a lot of respect for her abilities
  • She is an Accountancy student from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas, earning her a lot of respect from me because UP is my dream school
  • She is the Big Winner of this year’s PBB Teen Edition, easily gaining a lot of fans and an ABS-CBN contract in the process
  • She is a good singer and dancer
  • She has a lot of decent cosplays (mostly game characters)
  • She appeals to the mainstream audience

Cons

  • Most of her cosplays are out of character
  • Wears cosplay costumes everyday (man, that’s hard but totally impractical)
  • Her costumes don’t fit her well/have wrong or missing details
  • Her makeup makes her look like an espasol
  • She sucks at hosting
  • She obviously chased fame since her Kpop cover days that’s why she joined PBB
  • She appeals to the mainstream audience, therefore encouraging the jejecosplayer boom (AKA the cancer of society)

There you have it! But if you’re going to ask me, I’ll probably choose Alodia. She already has an overwhelming advantage to begin with, and Myrtle simply doesn’t stand a chance (especially with that Asuka Langely plugsuit). It’s really strange how someone as small as Myrtle (not an insult) got to be compared to someone as large as Alodia (not a compliment). Myrtle doesn’t even come close to Alodia in terms of success and quality of cosplay. If I get to pick a rival for Alodia, it’d be Jin Joson because she totally surpasses Alodia when it comes to cosplay and awards. Jin is lucky not to have fantards like the ones swarming Alodia, and there’s virtually nothing to hate about her (unless she’s secretly a bitch worse than Wilonah).

There is Hope!!!!

I’ve been lurking in this group called CNPH Cosplay Market and there was some person who brought about the topic of the true essence of cosplaying.

However, for some reason, I forgot to take a screenshot of the post (stupid move for me). But I’ll summarize the high points of the conversation.

There are actually a lot of Filipino cosplayers who know and believe that cosplay is not just putting on  a costume and looking cute for the cameras, but deep love for the character and proper portrayal goes with a good costume.

That thread also hoped to educate newbie cosplayers, and some actually swore they’d change their old famewhoring and camwhoring ways for the betterment of the community.

There is hope! Even if it is slow and almost insignificant, there is a positive change from the ways of old! Just give it more time, and hopefully newbie cosplayers will be informed.

Chienna Joins Animax’s Ani-Mate Contest

First, I saw this

Then I was like:

“How would she get in there? I bet Mike Abundouche pulled a few strings for her to get in.”

and

“If she ever wins that contest, you know who to blame”

OH GOD PLEASE ANYONE BUT HER
